Each year BTC awards hairdressers and hairstylists who have shown their skills and talent through social media (namely, Instagram) with a single shot, or post. Hence, BTC #ONESHOT Hair Awards. The awards ceremony takes place during BTC’s “Color Cut & Style” event at the end of September.

We are so happy for Courtney and the recognition that she has received from BTC for her exceptional work! So, of course, we wanted to learn more about her, the look that made her a finalist and where she gets her inspiration.

T&G: Tell me about the look you submitted for the BTC #ONESHOT Awards.

CG: The look is a mullet with soft pink accents and a fiery red base. It’s enough to emphasize the mullet shape, but it lets the colour take center stage in this look.

T&G: How did you create this colour?

CG: I started out by pre-lightening in triangle shapes through the top and going in with a base in between then visually lightening the perimeter lengths and toning with a pink colour at the end.

T&G: What inspired this colour?

CG: I was inspired by gem tones and the pink hair colour trend. I had been playing with a few toners and when given the opportunity to place colour on a model for a shoot, I went for it!

T&G: What is your favorite colour technique?

CG: It’s hard for me to pinpoint just one technique. I have learned and work with so many that I guess it’s all about how the haircut that follows is going to look or how the hairstyle is going to be. But I love working with bright, vivid colours! I love recreating colours that make a beautiful, loud statement. It’s one of the exciting things about being a hairdresser: creating statements that make a client or model feel amazing.

T&G: What do you love most about your career and the industry you work in?

CG: I love that I am an artist,  I get to help people feel great about their self-image, and I am in an industry where creativity is endless. As a hairdresser, you constantly learn and grow each day. I love it. I truly do.

T&G: What advice would you give to aspiring hairdressers?

CG: Every day is an opportunity to grow as an artist and as a human being. You constantly evolve and change. In choosing to do hairdressing, you choose not to work, but to create art on the outside as well as on the inside.

T&G: How does it feel to be chosen as a finalist for the BTC #ONESHOT Awards?

CG: I am very excited to be chosen out of 130,000 entries! I love representing my TONI&GUY family, and I hope to make the #AHWB Army proud!
